HEDGEHOG VALLEY POLICIES

Our Policies: 

REFUNDS/EXCHANGES: 

We think that purchasing a pet is a decision that should not be undertaken lightly, and thus do not offer refunds. Should the purchaser find within 2 weeks of the purchase date that the individual hedgehog is not acceptable for any reason, we will exchange for a comparable animal, as soon as one is available. This exchange does not include the price of shipping, should that be necessary. If at any time you are no longer able to care for your hedgehog, for whatever reason, we will accept that animal back and will care for it or find another suitable home for it. We do not offer any financial compensation for this service.

HEALTH: 

We guarantee that we are selling a hedgehog that is, to our knowledge, in good health. All baby hedgehogs are guaranteed to be free from congenital problems until age 6 months. Should something happen to the hedgehog before the age of six months, we will replace the animal at no charge if given a necropsy report from a licensed veterinarian stating that the nature of the problem as something that the animal had already developed or was predisposed to develop. While we take care to ensure the quality of our lines, no breeder can 100% guarantee that problems will never arise. This does not include accident, negligence, or any treatable or communicable illness, and does not include the price of shipping the replacement animal, should that be necessary. Hedgehogs over 6 months of age do not carry a health guarantee, but may be returned within 1 week from the date of sale for a full refund or trade for a comparable animal if a veterinarian finds that the animal has any unknown health problem that was likely to have originated prior to purchase.

If you would like to talk to other people who have obtained hedgehogs from us and/or who have visited our facility, we can provide you with email addresses/websites of some happy Hedgehog Valley hedgehog owners.

PAYMENT: 

We can accept payment in the form of cash, money orders, or cashier's checks. Please do not mail cash. We DO NOT TAKE PERSONAL CHECKS due to the alarming frequency with which people have bounced them on us in the past. We are now able to accept credit card payment via paypal. Payment in full must be received within 7 days of our sending you the instruction/confirmation email in response to your reservation. If it is not received by that date, your reservation will be cancelled. It is your responsibility to send payment in a timely manner if you do not want your reservation cancelled.

RESERVATIONS: 

Babies listed on the website are first come, first serve. If we don't have what you are looking for, email and we'll let you know when we might have it, or who else to ask. I typically check litters for gender and make a preliminary guess at color at between 2 and 3 weeks. If you decide that you would like us to hold a particular hedgehog, let us know and we will hold it for up to 10 days with no deposit. If you would like us to hold it longer than 10 days, you must pay for it in full, including any shipping costs.

Babies are typically weaned and ready to ship when they are between 6 and 8 weeks old. If you would like to hold it for longer than that, it must be paid for in full and you need to let us know when you will pick up or have it shipped. If shipped, we must receive payment in full prior to the purchase of the health certificate. We typically schedule our vet appointments very early on the Wednesday morning prior to shipping, so please plan ahead. Once payments are received, they are nonrefundable so please do not ask us to reserve a hedgie for you unless you are certain that it is what you want.

We will contact you by email as soon as we can after we receive your deposit or payment, to let you know that it was received. If we do not hear from you within 7 days of our sending your confirmation/instructions form, we will cancel your reservation with no notice to you. We hate to do this, but we have had problems with people asking us to hold a baby, and then we never hear from them again. It isn't fair to the other people who are looking at that hedgie, or to us, when people do that. As a result, we have had to get strict about this policy. 

SHIPPING: 

We can only ship when the weather permits. We primarily use Continental and can ship as long as it is above 10 degrees, under about 100 degrees, and no major storms are expected that would delay shipment. We live approximately 2-1/2 hours from the nearest airport and are only able to ship on Saturdays or Sundays. Due to the time and expense involved in getting to the airport, we typically ship once every two to three weeks during the months that we are able to ship. Sometimes we have to delay shipments when the weather does not cooperate, but we do our best to reschedule for the next possible date. If we have already purchased a health certificate and it expires before we can get the hedgie shipped, we will cover the cost of the replacement if it is due to the weather.

We need to note that during movement from one home to another, whether shipped across the country or driven across town, animals will experience stress. If we think that a hedgie is showing signs that it is not ready to handle this stress (growth delays, discolored poop), we will ask that you be patient if we need to delay and assess your hedgie's needs, in order to determine what is going to be best for that particular hedgehog. We have the opportunity to take all hedgehogs for a health inspection prior to sale when we ship, or for you to inspect in person if you pick up in person, but some hedgehogs still develop stress-related problems, such as discolored poop, mite flare-ups, or respiratory infection, during transit. If your hedgehog develops any of these problems, we ask that you contact us so that we can be aware of there is anything we need to check on here, and so that we can help you and your veterinarian as needed. If you would like any additional testing beyond the basic health examination, please let us know and we can assist in arranging for that in advance. We will do everything we can to ensure that your animal is healthy prior to its departure, but you will need to take responsibility for any minor issues that arise in transit or shortly after arrival. Our 6 month guarantee, as stated above, does cover any hedgehogs that have major problems that we failed to detect.

We will make ourselves available to answer any questions that we can! We want you and your hedgehog to be happy. Don't hesitate to call or E-mail if you have any questions about your hedgehog!

LINEAGE INFORMATION:

We do not currently participate in the International Hedgehog Registry and we make no claims that any information you are provided by that organization is correct. Anyone who has purchased a hedgehog from us can contact us for lineage information on their hedgehog before or after the your purchase. If we have the birth month and mother's name, we can easily locate your hedgehog's pedigree. Having lineage information is no guarantee of the health or longevity of a hedgehog because there is still so much that we do not know about these animals, even after tracking as much as 9 years of information on some lines. We will answer any questions you may have about your hedgehog's family history so that you can feel comfortable with your decision. We ask that you inquire prior to sale if you have concerns about the family's health history, as this information is available to you prior to purchase.

FINAL NOTE: 

We reserve the right to refuse service for any reason we deem sufficient. We also reserve the right to cancel any transaction at any time, if we feel the reason is sufficient. If we cancel a transaction, we will refund any monies received minus a $20 nonrefundable deposit and any monies spent on the customer's behalf.
