Fourth Annual

Iola Hedgehog Fest

For those of you who aren't familiar with a white elephant gift exchange, the way it works is that each person brings a gift, then gets to pick a number. Then, the person with #1 gets to go up and pick a gift, and has to show everybody what it is. The person with #2 then gets to either steal #1's gift, or can go pick a different one from the table. Then, #3 can steal from #1 or #2 or get a new present from the table. Anyone whose gift is stolen must pick a new gift from the table. Finally, when everyone has a gift, #1 gets the chance to trade with anyone he or she wants, if he or she wants, and the exchange is then over!

The group listens as the white elephant rules are explained.

Brenda Sandoval was the lucky #1 and got a mug with a hedgehog on it that said, "I poked in at the Iola '04 Hedgehog Fest."

Our emcees, Lance and Zury Burleson, help #2, Seph Burleson, unwrap her gift.

Seph shows off what she got- a hedgehog bathing kit!

Becca Loane checks out her gift- a cute set of hedgie snuggly blankies!

Penni Godemann grapples with whether or not to steal Becca's blankies...

Becca's sad faces convinced Penni to go try a new present. She got this hedgehog art piece, made from cut paper, instead.

Nancy Thomas got some delicious smelling hedgehog-shaped candles.

Jane Kuta said she just had to find out what was in the slim jim container... it was hedgehog figurines!

Nancy Cisneros got a bag full of all kinds of goodies!

Cindy Hesse decided to take her own gift back... a walmart gift card.

Zury Burleson helps out by helping unwrap the next gift...

Sarah Shore finishes unwrapping what Zury started.

Floyd Aprill inspects his gift, an italian charm bracelet that was custom made with a picture of a hedgehog on each link!

Becca donated a puppy from her package for little emcee Zury Burleson to unwrap at the end.

Nobody was brave enough to steal anybody's gift, but everybody was happy with what they got! A fantastic time was had by all!
