Golden Greek Tortoises

These three handsome guys are Golden Greek Tortoises. They originate from the Mediterranean and are part of a group of tortoises referred to as Testudo. While classification of this group is confused and incomplete, they largely have the same care requirements.

Greek tortoises are completely herbivorous and like to eat lots of greens and a bit of fruits. They need a spacious, well-drained pens and need to hibernate in the winter. They do not do well if housed exclusively indoors.

Rabbit pellets make a good substrate for indoor time. The tort sticking out of the tunnel is Abrams, the one to the right is Knothead.

Panzer didn't want to smile for the picture, but this shows the gorgeous orange on his shell.

Abrams is disguised as a Kansas painted tortoise...
