How to Buy a
Hedgehog Online
1.
Choose your hedgehog
-
To choose a hedgehog, look at what is
available on our babies available page. If it says "On Hold" by it, that means
that someone has reserved it, and it isn't for sale unless they back
out.
- If you have any questions, contact
us on Facebook so that we can help you out!
If you prefer text or email, let us know and provide your alternate
contact when
you message.
- If we don't have what you are looking for,
then we'll do our best to give you an idea of when we might have it,
and when to check back.
- If we do have a hedgehog that you
want to reserve, please
message us to hold it for you. We ask that you read
our policy page, so that you are familiar with
our sales policies and our guarantee. Reservations are taken
on a first come, first serve basis, in the order that we receive the
requests.
- Please remember that we cannot
sell/ship to states where hedgehogs are
illegal.
2. Putting hedgehog on hold
- We do not reserve babies prior to two weeks old. When they are 2
to 3
weeks old, we can usually check for gender and make a preliminary
guess at color.
-
Babies listed are first come, first serve. We do not have a wait list
and we do not require a deposit. If you are coming to meet the hedgies
and visit in person, you can pay by paypal, credit card (via
Square), or cash. If you are reserving a baby and need it held more
than 7 days, you can pay via paypal or credit card (via square).
-
If you want to be notified of new
litters, please like/follow us on
Facebook.
- If you see a baby listed that you are
interested in, please contact us by
Facebook
messenger.
- A reservation request will hold your baby for up to
7 days while
you make arrangements for payment. If we do
not receive your payment or do not pick up your baby within 7 days, we will cancel your
reservation. If we do not receive your payment, we will assume you
are no longer interested, so please make sure to contact us if you
haven't gotten a confirmation of your payment being received within
24 hours.
-
Babies are typically weaned
and ready to ship when they are between 7 and 8 weeks old. Your payment
will hold a baby to weaning age. If your hedgehog is going to be shipped,
we must receive payment in full at least 10 days prior to shipping as it
takes us about that long to get shipping and health certificate appointments arranged. We
will not make an appointment for a health certificate or schedule
shipping until your baby and shipping costs are paid in full.
-
Once payments are received, they
are nonrefundable so please do not ask us to reserve a hedgehog for you
unless you are certain that it is what you want.
- After you submit your reservation request, we
will send you a message confirm your reservation or to let you know
if we received an earlier
request. Please be sure to respond to our confirmation. If you do
not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, please follow up as that means your
request did not go through.
- Please keep in touch with us during
the purchasing process. Other people may want the hedgie you have
reserved, and may miss their opportunity if you change your mind and
don't tell us.
- We cannot promise updated pictures
while you wait because hedgehogs are not fond of the flash or the
camera click and it can
take up to half an hour to get a halfway decent picture of some
babies. But, if your baby likes to pose for the camera or if you
want to see color and don't mind that hedgie ducks and hides between
when the flash goes and the shutter clicks, we can get pictures for
you.
3. Purchasing the hedgehog
Picking Up In Person
-
Communicate with us about a day and time
that will work for you and we will set up an appointment for you to come
pick up your hedgehog.
-
We do raise our animals in our home, so we
do not take drop ins, making an appointment is important so that we can
ensure we will be here and able to assist you.
- If we are traveling, we are happy to meet
with you along the way to deliver your hedgehog, as long as you are able
to work with our schedule. We list our schedule on our Facebook page so
you can see where we are going!
Having Your Hedgehog
Shipped
- Information about ground shipping
companies that we work with and what information we have about
upcoming routes can be found on our
Shipping
Group.
- When we receive your reservation request,
please tell us if you are needing your hedgehog shipped and where
(city and state) so that we can confirm that we can get your
hedgehog on a route to you. When shipping is confirmed, we will send you
a confirmation
with your total. For those that are shipped, this will include the cost of hedgie(s), health
certificate, kennel cab, and shipping. If there are any questions
we have about your reservation, we will ask at that time.
- If you would like to arrange your
shipping directly with a shipper, you are welcome to do that. We
just need to know when they are picking up so we can have everything
ready.
- We will need your name, address,
phone number, and email for the health certificate and for the
shipper.
- We can accept payment via PayPal,
or if you want to use a credit card, please request that we send you
an invoice via square. We do not take personal checks because of the unfortunate
frequency with which they have been bounced on us in the past.
- We use ground shipping because we
have found it to be safe and reliable. Our shipping companies are
experienced with hedgehogs and give them excellent care on the road.
We understand that ground shipping can be a little weird because the
final routes aren't usually finalized until just a few days before
travel and arrival times are estimates. They may arrive earlier or
later, depending on road conditions. The shipper will keep you
notified of any changes in the schedule as the route progresses.
- Current cost information on
shipping, as of 01/04/2021:
We are able to ship up to 4 hedgies in one kennel to
one location; pricing for additional hedgies depends on the
transporter. We
have found reliable USDA licensed shipping with three ground
shipping services. Their rates range from $130 plus $10 travel cage
($150 total) to $160 for freight, $10 cage, and
health cert is $57.50 for one ($36 exam fee additional per extra hedgie), so it's $227.50 plus cost of hedgie(s) (plus exam fee if
additional hedgies) to ship to hedgie legal
locations within the continental US.
We are also able to provide
limited regional transport. If you meet up with us when we are
traveling (pinned post is on our Hedgehog Valley facebook feed)
there is no charge. For a private delivery, the fees are based
on distance from Iola, KS: Up to 120 miles- $75; 101 to 200 miles-
$140.
5. Confirming arrival
-
Once you arrive home with your hedgies, we
really appreciate it if you let us know that your hedgehog(s) arrived and to let us know
how they are doing and how you like them.
-
If you have any more questions
or concerns, we'll do our best to help!
- Remember, no matter how
long you have owned your Hedgehog Valley hedgie, we will always be happy
to offer support. We love updates and pictures, please share them on our
Facebook page!
We also appreciate feedback ratings on our Facebook page, though we ask that if you felt there were
any problems, that you contact us to try to resolve those problems
before you leave your feedback.
